How to RENEW my CPL
To renew, you must complete 3 hrs of review and 1 hr at the range.
You don't need to attend a class if you self-study for 3 hrs. There are many websites you can visit to complete this task on you own.
1hr on the range is required and the state of Michigan does not specify the amount of bullets that must be shot during your hour on the range. In the original cpl training, the State requires new shooters to shoot 30 bullets.
RENEWING IN PERSON:
BY SIGNING THE RENEWAL APPLICATION IN PERSON AT THE COUNTY CLERK'S OFFICE YOU ARE SWEARING AND AFFIRMING THAT YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE SELF-STUDY AND RANGE REQUIREMENTS.
RENEWING ONLINE:
YOU WILL NEED A PIN # MAILED TO YOU BY THE COUNTY CLERK WHO ORIGINALLY FILED YOUR CPL. THEN, ON THE MSP CPL/RENEWAL PAGE YOU WILL HAVE TO SWEAR/AFFIRM THAT YOU HAVE COMPLETED 3HRS OF REVIEW AND 1HR OF RANGE TIME.
If a CPL holder’s renewal notification letter does not contain a PIN, he/she may request a new renewal notification letter directly from the county clerk that issued the CPL.
